NEMA DG VISITS SOLUDO AHEAD OF 2024 FLOOD EARLY WARNING PROGRAMME IN THE STATE
The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs Zubaida Umar and her team visited Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo (CFR), today July 3, 2024, ahead of the agency's 2024 flood early warning programme in the state.
In her speech, the NEMA DG emphasized the importance of early warning strategy for disaster preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery, noting the devastating impact of floods on vulnerable Nigerians. She expressed the need for collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agency SEMA to reach the affected communities.
In his response, the Deputy Governor of Anambra state Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim, representing Governor Prof. Soludo, appreciated the NEMA's prompt response to the state's flood challenges, which have affected two-thirds of the state, causing hardship and diseases amongst the people. He thanked the presidency for establishing committees for short- and long-term disaster management programmes stressing that it has been of great help in tackling the menace the disaster comes with.
The meeting which took place at the Office of the Deputy Governor Anambra State was attended by NEMA officials and Anambra State SEMA executives, ended with a presentation to the Governor by the DG and a vote of thanks from the Chief of Staff, Mr. Enerst Ezeajughi, who expressed willingness to work with NEMA and prayed for a safe journey back for the visitors.
