SOLUDO VISITS THE BUILDING COLLAPSE SITE AT DMGS, PROMISES THOROUGH INVESTIGATION
The Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has visited the site of the collapsed 5-storey building at the Dennis Memorial Grammar School Onitsha, promising a thorough investigation into the tragic incident.
Addressing reporters at the scene over the incident, which took place on Tuesday night, Governor Soludo expressed deep sadness over the incident, describing it as tragedy.
"It is an unfortunate incident. We will do everything within our power to unravel the circumstances surrounding the collapse and ensure that those found culpable are brought to justice," the Governor said through his Deputy Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim.
He commended the efforts of the emergency responders who have been working tirelessly and whose intense efforts have rescued a victim unharmed.
The Governor directed the immediate suspension of all construction activities in the place, pending a thorough review of building standards and compliance with safety regulations.
"We will not tolerate any compromise when it comes to the safety of our people. This incident has shown the need for stricter enforcement of building codes and guidelines. Going forward, we will ensure that all construction projects in the state adhere to the highest safety standards," Governor Soludo stated.
At visiting the hospital where the recued victim is admitted, he sympathized with him, assured the people of Anambra State that the state government will make every effort to ensure a diligent investigation into the cause of the collapse.
The Governor's visit was accompanied by the his chief of staff Mr, Enerst Ezeajughi. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon. Tonycollins Nwabunwanne and his health Counterpart Dr. Afam Obidike as he pledges total commitment to finding lasting solutions to the problem of building collapses.
