SOLUDO FELICITATES WITH STATE LEGISLATURES AS THE 8TH ASSEMBLY MARKS 1 YEAR IN OFFICE
At the Anambra State House of Assembly, a special Thanksgiving church service to commemorate 25 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria and the first year in office for the members of 8th Assembly was held today the 12th day of June, 2024.
The non-denominational service, which took place at the complex, was officiated by the Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province on the Niger and the Bishop of Awka diocese Anglican communion, His Grace Most Rev'd Alexander Chibuzor Ibezim.
In his sermon, the Archbishop called for legislatures that will be accountable to the masses. He appreciated the achievements of the lawmakers and prayed that they put the citizens' interest above theirs as they strive for excellence.
Representing the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR, the Deputy Governor, Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim described the 25 years of uninterrupted democracy in the nation as heartwarming. He appreciates the cohesion between the executive and the legislative arm of government in the state, calling for "Anambra first," for all members of the 8th assembly irrespective of different party affiliations."
The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somto Udeze, expressed gratitude to God and the people of Anambra for electing them. He described the 8th assembly as "strong," with 14 bills passed, 13 of which have been signed into law.
The Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Ikechebelu, expressed delight over the cordial relationship between the three arms of government, describing the last one year of the legislature as a period of "hard work, proactiveness and achieving a purpose."
The member representing Njikoka I at the assembly, Hon. Ibemeka Chidiebere, who doubles as the Chairman House Committee on petroleum and mineral resources, expressed delight over the recent passage of the petroleum bill, and the ongoing infrastructure projects in the his constituents by the state Governor while thanking the good people of his Constituency for believing in him.
The Commissioner for Environment, Dr Felix Odimegwu, appreciates the impacts of the 8th assembly, particularly the on the environmental Bill passed and thanked the state Governor for his impacts especially as it concerns the environment.
The Thanksgiving service, which featured praise, worship, and special prayers, was attended by members of the state executive council, traditional rulers, past members of the state assembly, and friends of the legislatures.
