ANAMBRA STATE BOUNDARY COMMITTEE MOVES TO ESTABLISH LASTING PEACE BETWEEN AMAETITI AND OKPEZE COMMUNITIES
Anambra state Deputy Governor Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim Leads Team to Crisis Location to Resolve Decades-Old Boundary Dispute
In a bid to bring lasting peace to the long-standing boundary dispute between Amaetiti and Okpeze communities in Orumba North Local Government Area, the Anambra State Boundary Committee, led by the Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, visits the crisis location to gather first-hand information and resolve the issue affecting both communities.
The boundary dispute, which dates back to the 1970s, has caused tension and violence between the two communities, with both sides claiming ownership of the disputed portion of land. Dr. Ibezim emphasized that the state government's presence is not to divide the communities but to establish peace and harmony between them.
"Amaetiti and Okpueze communities are like brothers and sisters, bound together by blood and marriage," Dr. Ibezim said. "We are here to resolve this issue once and for all, and we will do so in a fair and transparent manner."
Representatives from both communities, including Mr. Victor Onwunelu from Okpueze and a representative from Amaetiti, expressed their gratitude to the state government for its intervention and expressed their readiness to establish peace. They decried the intimidation, oat-taking, encroachment, and use of weapons that the crisis has brought and urged the committee to find a lasting solution.
The traditional ruler of Amaetiti, the president general of Amaetiti, the deputy president general of Okpueze, and the senior special assistant to the governor on boundary matters were also amongst those in attendance during the meeting.
With the state government's commitment to resolving the dispute, the people of Amaetiti and Okpueze communities can now look forward to a peaceful and harmonious coexistence.
