ANAMBRA, ENUGU DEPUTY GOVERNORS MEET TO RESOLVE INTER-STATE BOUNDARY DISPUTE
-Interactive Meeting Focuses on Long-Standing Dispute in Awba-Ofemili, Ibite-Olo, Omasi, and Adani Border Communities
In a bid to resolve the long-standing inter-state boundary dispute between Anambra and Enugu States, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim, held an interactive meeting with his Enugu State counterpart, Barr. Emeka Ossai, today Monday, May 27, 2024, at the Office of the Deputy Governor, Enugu State.
The meeting centered on the disputed sectors of the boundary corridor between Awba-Ofemili in Anambra and Ibite-Olo in Enugu, as well as between Omasi in Anambra and Adani in Enugu State. The deputy governors discussed structuring the most effective way to implement the outcome of the January 24th Joint Meeting of Officials (JMO) in Abuja and other issues of interest concerning boundary matters.
The fruitful deliberation resulted in an approval for a joint technical session between both states to facilitate the process of peaceful resolution of the dispute as soon as possible.
Also present at the meeting were the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Anambra State on Boundary, Hon. Ekenechukwu Okoye, and the Executive Secretary, Enugu State Boundary Committee, Dr. Ejim.
The closed door meeting marks a significant step towards resolving the lingering boundary dispute between the two sister states, and both governments have expressed their commitment to achieving a peaceful and lasting solution.
