Council of knights,an important and highly honored office of the laity in the Church of God Anglican Communion and Knighthood, an honor bestowed on men and women who have distinguished themselves in personal character and notable accomplishments for the good of humanity.
Today, the diocese of Awka, Anglican communion holds her 2024 Easter retreat for this organisation. In his sermon, His Grace, the Most Rev'd Alexander Chibuzor Ibezim the Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger & Bishop, diocese of Awka draws his sermon from this year's theme "Father Forgive Them" which was taken from the Holy book of luke 23 vs 34.
Archbishop Ibezim described forgiveness as powerful, stressing that forgiveness is very minimal in the present society. According to him "Bitterness is on the rise, and it transcends into actions that are negative, which eludes Christians the blessings of God. "
Archbishop Ibezim he further explained that God does not close chapters of forgiveness, emphasizing that when we forgive, our prayers will be easily answered by God. The Archbishop used the opportunity to reconcile and extend forgiveness amongst all members of the council who might be going through one bitterness or another with members.
In his reading, the Anambra State Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Gilbert Ibezim KSJ, a member of the council of knights in the diocese, took his reading from the Holy Book of Mark chapter 15 vs. 33-35.
The Deputy Governor during his speech expressed delight over the coming together of brethren in the house of God, Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim admonished the council to reach out to those people in government stressing that God's work will be done irrespective of the harsh economy.
Dr. Ibezim described this period as a time to support the church of God while extolling the Archbishop on the greater work he has done in the diocese and urged Christians to remain steadfast in this period for according to him good Friday avail Christians the period for sober reflection.
In his interview, one of the men to be inducted in this season into knighthood and he who doubles as the state Chief of Protocol and Deputy Chief of staff to the Anambra State Governor Hon Chinedu Nwoye described Christians as those who display christ-like behaviours and not churchgoers. He explained that the period we are into is the period of showing love, expressing charity, and urged all Christians to manifest godly behaviours, especially in this period.
Lessons from the bible, teachings, training of the men and women to be inducted, and thanksgiving formed a major part of this retreat, which took place at St Peters Church, Amawbia with the Archbishop's wife / the president women ministry of the diocese Dr. Mrs Chioma Martha Ibezim. The diocesan president of the knight Council Prof. Emma Ezewaji with his isukwuato Counterpart in attendance.
