ANAMBRA STATE DEPUTY GOVERNOR DR. ONYEKACHUKWU IBEZIM MEETS WITH THE FLOOD RESPONSE COMMITTEE

In a bid to mitigate the negative effects of flooding in the lives of some residents living in the flood prone areas of the state.  The Anambra state Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim meets with the flood response committee for possible proactive measures.


At the office of the Deputy Governor today the venue of meeting involving the state Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim and the flood response committee. The committee entrusted with the responsibility of making sure that the victims of flood are evacuated, protected and provided for  in their various camps. 


Mr. Deputy Governor a member of the presidential steering committee on flood, charged the team to be proactive, examined the level of preparedness and  mandated that quality food of home standards with  quality drugs be made available at the holding centres. 


Mr Deputy Governor requested for a speed up in the activation of the local government management committee the sub committee of the group, called for their inauguration which according to him will help to speedite actions at the local level.


On his part, the executive secretary of State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Chief Paul Odenigbo assures the preparedness of the committee stating that the standard work plan is being followed. 


The environment Commissioner of the state Engr. Felix Odimegwu summarised that it's all about review of the 2022 flood response and improvement towards 2023 estimated flooding.


He assured convenient environment, adequate food  supplies, quality health care services, recreational activities and more at the holding centres. 


The Transition Committee Chairman of Anambra west local government Hon. Felix Ikechi on behalf of other affected TC chairmen, appreciates the proactive measures the state government is applying towards 2023 estimated flooding and promised to inform and educate the people on the need to harvest their crops on time, preserve them properly and move their household to the holding centres

ahead of time just as provided by the state government.


Also present during the meeting was the Commissioner for Agriculture Dr. Forster Ihejiofor, his Transport counterpart Mrs Patricia Igwebuike, Permanent secretary office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Uzoka.


Others include, The TC chairman of Ayamelum, Hon. Linus Onyenwe, His Awka North, Ekwusigo, Ogbaru and Anambra east counterparts Hon. Thankgod Anago, Hon. Chimezie Obi, Hon. Aniebonam Pascal and Hon. Pascal Onuorah respectively.


Hon. CY Agupugo the executive director of SEMA and a representative of the women and children affairs ministry were equally present.
